The Tirana Prosecution Office completed the investigations and submitted for trial the criminal file against three employees of Prison 313 on charges of abuse of office, in connection with the attempted escape from prison of detainees Arbër Çekaj, the owner of the “Arbri Garden” company convicted of trafficking 613 kg of Colombian cocaine in Albania, and Fatmir Pjetri, a member of the Babagjyshëve gang. The charges include employees Redion Maloku, Bashkim Muça and Oldi Myzyri.
"According to the referral made, on 08.08.2021, the judicial police at the ICS received notification from the information office of the "Jordan Misja" Prison in Tirana, that at around 15:40 of that day, detainees Arbër Çekaj and Fatmir Pjetri attempted to escape by descending with an improvised rope from the sheet, from the ventilation section on the terrace of building "A" to the administration stairs, and were then neutralized by police forces in the courtyard of the Prison. In the exercise of their duties as basic role employees, the defendants Redion Maloku, Bashkim Muça and Oldi Myzyri violated the security scheme of the "Jordan Misja" Prison," the file states.
According to the prosecution, these three citizens were working as basic role employees at the time of the escape attempt and the investigation shows that they did not carry out the mandatory check according to the law and regulations. If the employees had carried out their duty, the detainees would not have been able to move around the interior with prohibited items or items produced by them to escape or to use violence against the police officers who tried to stop them. This is confirmed by the video footage of the interior of the IEVP 313.
The footage shows that guards Redion Maloku, Bashkim Muça and Oldi Myzyri did not conduct a physical search of Fatmir Pjetri, who was carrying a bag with prohibited items, making it possible for the detainees to circulate within the IEVP with prohibited items, which they then used to attempt an escape.
