A serious incident was recorded this Friday in Greek waters, where a dinghy coming from the Albanian coast has issued the international emergency signal "SOS" near the coast of Greece. According to Greek media, the incident occurred in the maritime area between Igoumenitsa and Corfu, in a place called Prasoudi. After the distress signal, the vessels of the Border Police of Corfu and Igoumenitsa immediately headed to the scene, while a request for assistance was also forwarded to the Border Police of Saranda.
At the scene, Greek authorities found a half-sunken dinghy and inside it the driver, an Albanian citizen, who has been identified as Edmond Musa, 50, originally from Saranda and known by the nickname "Çimoni". According to sources, he is a person previously booked for involvement in international drug trafficking.
Initially, Musa was arrested on charges of "illegal border crossing" and "sinking a vessel", while he was transported to the Port of Igoumenitsa and then to Filati Hospital to receive medical assistance.
However, after suspicions were raised about his activity, the Greek police returned to the scene for a more detailed inspection. Due to sea currents, the dinghy had moved near the Sajadha area, where during the detailed inspection a large amount of marijuana was discovered, carefully hidden in the interior of the vessel. According to Greek media, the narcotic substance has been seized and is currently being transported to the Port of Igoumenitsa, where it will be weighed to determine the quantity of the drug.
