The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has chosen to deliver his political messages from the weekly rostrum outside the Prime Minister's Office, abandoning this Monday's plenary session.
Outside Prime Minister Edi Rama's office, Berisha thanked protesters who took part in Saturday's march in the capital. During the march, there were also acts of tension, with Molotov cocktails and fireworks thrown at the villa of former dictator Enver Hoxha, causing a fire.
"The epic march of protesters, unseen before on the streets of Tirana, in which they gave the message of an invincible citizenry, boundless gratitude," said Berisha.
He directly accused Prime Minister Rama of corruption and statements that, according to him, violate the public interest.
Berisha: "Dear friends, we must speak openly, tell things as they are. The country is entering a critical phase like never before. Edi Rama, as you see, after being caught, proven to be the chief thief of the nation, publicly declared that corruption will be protected, not fought... I invite Albanians to become aware that these days more than ever their fate is being played with."
According to him, Rama has publicly stated that corruption will not be fought and that the fight against it is more harmful than corruption itself. "He told Albanian citizens that nothing in the world prevents him from stealing from them with the power he has. This is the most unheard of statement in the history of the country," Berisha said.
He added that these statements were made at a time when, according to him, the international community has increased its presence and messages against corruption in Albania, mentioning the arrival in Tirana of delegations and representatives of European institutions to gather facts.
