Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha reiterated the accusations against Ilir Proda of links to criminal groups, but said he was fired because he did not protect the villa of former dictator Enver Hoxha, a villa that Edi Rama adores.
"He left marked by us, as an enemy of the law, as an accomplice of gangs. But I fear that he left because he did not protect Enver Hoxha's villa," Berisha said.
He reacted harshly after Sokol Bizhga was appointed head of the State Police, until Proda's successor was appointed.
"A fierce enemy of the law, a traitor to his fellow soldier, to his colleague, who was burned alive in a car by criminals, Gjergj Mehmeti, and he ran away. And he comes out and says that I went through the hills and mountains. This is a traitor, who deserves to be punished for high treason against his colleague, at least 30 years and that's why Edi Rama put him in. He removed this product because he did not protect Vuila and Emnver and put this against the opposition. But let them know well, that the opposition has him convicted", Berisha concluded.
Seven French citizens were present during the Molotov cocktail attack on the former dictator's villa in the former Bloc area. After this incident, which brought international reaction, Edi Rama dismissed the police chief Proda.
