The European Union Delegation to Albania has reacted after yesterday's protest by the Democratic Party, emphasizing that the right to peaceful assembly is a fundamental pillar of any democratic society, but must be exercised responsibly and in full respect of the rule of law.
In the official statement, the EU Delegation expresses concern about the recent acts of violence in Tirana, which, according to it, endangered the lives of citizens.
"The European Union Delegation stresses that the right to peaceful assembly is a fundamental pillar of any democratic society. It must be exercised responsibly, in full respect of the rule of law and the security of all individuals. In this context, the EU Delegation expresses concern about the recent acts of violence in Tirana, which endangered human lives," the response states.
The EU Delegation calls on political actors to show restraint and emphasizes support for a constructive engagement in the context of important reforms on Albania's path towards the European Union.
