The Democratic Party Parliamentary Group has reacted harshly to the decision of the High Judicial Council to send the case of Special Judge Irena Gjoka to the High Inspector of Justice, despite the fact that she was convicted in Greece for using a forged visa.
In its reaction, the DP describes the Supreme Court's decision as "irresponsible and unprecedented", raising doubts about the independence and impartiality of this institution.
"The referral for jurisdiction to the ILD is a clear attempt to drag out the case, with serious consequences for the judiciary, citizens' rights and public trust in the justice system," the statement said.
The DP calls on the ILD to implement the law and immediately request from the Supreme Court of Justice to declare the end of the mandate for the convicted judge.
The decision of the Supreme Court of Justice was made at Friday's meeting, where a request for verification of the status of Judge Gjoka was rejected regarding the failure to declare a criminal conviction handed down by the Greek judiciary in 2005. The case, according to the proposal of one of the members, is expected to be referred for review to the ILD.
