Democratic MP Edi Paloka has directly attacked Agron Shehaj, accusing him of playing into Edi Rama's hands and damaging efforts to unite the opposition.
During the interview on the show Kjo Javë, Paloka stated that he is in favor of uniting the Democratic Party with the entire opposition front, but emphasized that this union should only occur with forces that, according to him, truly aim to remove Rama from power.
He expressed strong reservations about Shehaj's recent stances, recalling that the DP had agreed to run a single candidate in the local elections for the Municipality of Tirana, while now, according to Paloka, the leader of the "Mundësia" party has come up with new political variants.
"While you are asking for unity and reaching out to opposition parties, someone is getting worried, because the feeling is rising that Rama does not have long. There is a feeling that Rama will leave and take an important position abroad, and this encourages small parties to start thinking about power," said Paloka.
The Democratic MP emphasized that the DP, according to him, has done more than it should as the largest opposition force to create a common front, but warned that it makes no sense to seek unity with entities that, according to him, work to harm the opposition from within.
"I have always tried to unite the DP and the opposition — but that opposition that really wants to overthrow Rama. Those who are part of his game, I don't know why we are still calling on them," Paloka said.
