The head of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, has reacted after SPAK's refusal to hold a meeting with the Parliamentary Commission led by Fatmir Xhafaj, which he describes as the "Xhafaj 2 Commission".
In a reaction on social media, Bardhi states that the government's attempt to exert pressure and intimidation on the Special Prosecution Office has received a firm response from SPAK. According to him, this rejection comes in the wake of what he describes as an open clash between the government and the justice system.
Bardhi lists several cases, mentioning the Constitutional Court's objection to the decision to suspend the Deputy Prime Minister from office, the delay in SPAK's request to lift her immunity and arrest her, as well as the attempt to carry out monitoring visits to SPAK through MPs. According to him, these actions constitute a direct attack on the independence of the Special Prosecution Office.
"Through the so-called 'monitoring visits', the government attempts to intimidate SPAK, but this institution has given a firm refusal, considering these visits contrary to the law and a violation of constitutional independence," Bardhi said in his reaction.
At the end of the statement, Bardhi emphasizes that, according to him, no form of pressure or intimidation towards SPAK will avoid the legal responsibility of Prime Minister Edi Rama and other officials involved.
For its part, the Special Prosecution Office has described the request for a monitoring meeting as an action that violates the law and is contrary to the principle of the institution's independence.
