The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has expressed his welcome for SPAK's subpoena on the "January 21" issue. After the meeting with the DP parliamentary group, Berisha told the media that he is the person who has requested more than anyone else the investigation of the tragic events of January 21, while according to him, the main obstacle to justice has been Edi Rama.
"I have not received any subpoenas, for the simple fact that Alfred Greca gives them to journalists before giving them to me. I have no problem, because I am the person who has requested more than anyone else the investigation of those tragic events. I have requested an international prosecutor to investigate them. Since 2013 until today, it is only Edi Rama who has obstructed the investigation. Sali Berisha has requested an international prosecutor, an investigation, and fortunately there are statements from the US, where Mr. Shtaimer came as their assistant and Contrimen requested investigations against the police and the organizer. The organizer is known who he is. I am open to this event being investigated," said Berisha.
The leader of the Democrat Party also spoke about the platform that is expected to be raised in front of the Prime Minister's Office, emphasizing that it will have a daily character and will aim to remove Edi Rama and Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku. However, he ruled out the possibility of an institutional boycott by the opposition.
"The platform before the Prime Minister's Office has two ultimatum goals: first, the removal of Edi Rama and Belinda Balluku. It will be on certain days, most likely Thursday. We will return the Assembly to the basis of the regulation. All necessary forms for the restoration of parliamentary normality will be implemented. There are no surprises — go to the committees tomorrow and you will see. The decision is final," Berisha declared.
Although he repeated calls for protests, Berisha did not give a concrete date for their launch, sufficed to say that they will happen "very soon."
The DP leader also focused on the by-elections in five municipalities across the country, where his party did not run official candidates, but supported independent candidates – all of whom lost. Although this was seen as another defeat for the opposition, Berisha justified the result by calling the process an “electoral farce.”
"It wasn't us, we were with independent candidates. I thank the independent candidates for participating in the elections. This government cannot make elections. A farce is a farce, a maneuver is a maneuver," said Berisha.
