Prime Minister Edi Rama, during the presentation of the "OSHEE Charge" project, stated that the energy sector has entered a new phase of modernization, while emphasizing that within the next year the installation of 350 thousand smart energy meters will begin.
"Today we have an innovation, while within the next year we will have energy meters, switching to the smart meter system. 350 thousand meters... Within this mandate we will close this process, which will further reduce the level of losses in the network," said Rama.
He also touched on the ambition to turn Albania into an energy exporter:
"The biggest strategic objective is to turn Albania from a country on the verge of collapse into an exporter of electricity. Something that is in our hands, within a few years," the prime minister said.
Rama announced that work is underway to build a state-of-the-art data center, as well as an energy interconnection, which he described as a national project of strategic value:
"We are moving forward with the major interconnection project, which will give us as a country a strategic lead in energy transportation."
The head of government also announced a salary increase for OSHEE employees, who are not covered by the state budget:
"For 6,800 employees, there will be a 6.1% salary indexation. For electricians, an increase of 75,000 new lek per month, while for electrical engineers the increase will be 12,500 new lek per month," Rama said.
Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku was also present at the “OSHEE Charge” presentation event. Rama emphasized that the energy sector has left emergency management behind and is entering the era of technological transformation.
