Albania has become the 64th country to join the Israel Allies Foundation, while the Parliamentary Group of Israel Allies is expected to be officially introduced in Tirana on Monday — an initiative aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting “trust-based diplomacy,” reports the Jerusalem Post.
The new parliamentary group will cooperate with the international coalition of pro-Israel parliamentary groups to deepen support for Israel and strengthen shared values between the two countries.
"It is a great honor to be part of this moment, which marks another chapter in the long friendship and cooperation between Albania and Israel. The fact that the group includes representatives from both the majority and the opposition carries a strong symbolic meaning, reflecting our shared national commitment," declared MP Romina Kuko.
Along the same lines, the chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, emphasized the historical importance of this relationship:
“The rescue of Jews from Albania during World War II remains a proud symbol of our humanity and courage. Through this platform, we strengthen our partnership in promoting peace, coexistence and human dignity.”
Members of Parliament are expected to sign the official Resolution creating the Parliamentary Group of Allies of Israel on Monday.
Josh Reinstein, president of the Israel Allies Foundation, praised Albania’s joining as an important step:
“Albania has an extraordinary legacy of protecting and honoring the Jewish people, and this group will build on that moral tradition. Faith-based diplomacy continues to unite leaders around biblical values, and we are proud to welcome Albania to this global network, at a time when standing with Israel is more important than ever.”
In recent years, Albania has consistently supported Israel in the international arena, including abstaining from several unilateral United Nations resolutions.
