Although he had collected more than 28 signatures from Democratic MPs, Endrit Shabani no longer has their support to run for the position of Ombudsman.
Sources said that today, as negotiations with the Socialist Party are taking place, the DP deputies who had signed for Shabani have withdrawn their signatures, making it impossible for him to reach the final phase of this process, that of voting in Parliament.
Endrit Shabani was one of the most acceptable names for the Socialists from the list of 7 candidates that came from the blue seat, and this seems to have caused the Democrats to take a step back.
Asked at today's press conference whether Shabani's candidacy will be supported, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, did not mention his name, but hinted that the Democrats have their own candidates in this process. One of the names that Berisha has often mentioned is that of the leader of the Association of Former Political Persecuted Persons, Besim Ndregjoni.
