Parliament met this afternoon to discuss the issues highlighted by MPs in recent weeks. Flooding from heavy rainfall was the main concern raised by both sides, but there were also sporadic debates on the politics of the day.
With Rama in Austria, where he participated in an international conference, and Berisha focused on Podium number 2, a vast majority of the government cabinet and MPs were not present, enthusiasm was lacking in the Assembly hall.
Opposition representatives did not spare comments on the arrest of former European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, linking it to her friendship with Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Balluku case. Some opposition MPs also requested that the Mogherini case be included in the agenda, but this was not accepted by the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, on the grounds that it was not foreseen in the procedure.
"One of the biggest problems that worries Albanians is corruption. The concern raised is justified, not a simple person has been arrested, but the director of the European College of Tirana, who you have been holding out to us for years as an example of success, even though she has seized the land of the public university of Tirana," said Democratic MP Luçiano Boçi.
The leader of the Mundësia party, Agron Shehaj, spoke about the "Balluku" case, saying that the Albanian prime minister, who has his own subordinate indicted by SPAK, is attacking the judiciary, SPAK, and prosecutors on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, today's opposition-majority clash took place between PL MP Tedi Blushi and Socialist MP Zegjine Çaushi. During his speech from the podium, Blushi mocked the Socialists and the government, which according to him is giving alms to pensioners. In her reply, Çaushi addressed Blushi mocking Ilir Meta, who is in prison.
Socialist Ardit Bido also had a clash with the head of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, over the ceremony on the occasion of the November 28 holiday. Bido accused the opposition that their absence from the ceremony constituted disrespect for the national symbol. While Bardhi stated that none of the Democrats has ever used a day of national unity for political division, emphasizing that honoring the flag requires integrity and action, not just participation in the ceremony.
Then, the deputies took turns speaking, including some who spoke for the first time.
