Reni Ashiku, one of the trusted people of the former Minister of Agriculture, Frida Krifca, was questioned today at SPAK regarding the scandal of abuse of IPARD funds.
The report on the abuses was made by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), following investigations into the way funds were administered in agriculture.
Ashiku is suspected of being at the center of the fraud scheme. On the recommendation of OLAF, the European Union cut off hundreds of millions of euros in aid to Albanian farmers from the IPARD 3 program, following the investigation into abuses in the AZHBR, for which former Minister Krifca was accused.
The issue of IPARD funds remains one of the most sensitive files related to the management of EU funds in Albania and the institutional responsibility for blocking support for farmers.
