With the entry into force of the Council of Ministers Decision No. 425, dated June 26, 2024, a category of teachers has faced a salary reduction, as a result of the change in the salary group related to the evaluation of the diploma.
According to the Independent Education Union of Albania, the decision has affected teachers who were part of the education system before the approval of the VKM, violating their professional status and rights acquired over the years.
Several meetings have been held with the Ministry of Education regarding this issue, during which it was acknowledged that the devaluation of diplomas for this category of teachers was done incorrectly. However, so far there has been no formalized solution, while the unions continue to seek institutional intervention.
The president of the Independent Education Union of Albania, Nevrus Kaptelli, emphasizes that the devaluation of diplomas should not have any financial impact on teachers who were already part of the education system. According to him, this situation affects about 6,000 teachers across the country.
Meanwhile, the case has been sent for review to the Constitutional Court by an association, while unions are calling on teachers not to fall prey to misinformation or false promises, seeking legal and sustainable solutions to the current situation.
