Travel has become an increasingly important part of the lives of Albanian citizens, especially in recent years, where a significant increase in tourist movements has been noted. Destinations range from countries in the region and Europe, to even beyond. But which are the countries in the region where Albanians have traveled the most and which destinations top the list of their preferences?
According to the Balkan Barometer, the majority of Albanians who have traveled within the region have chosen Kosovo as their main destination. A full 38% of respondents declare that they have traveled to Kosovo, marking an increase of 11% compared to last year. This trend is closely related to geographical proximity, family ties, as well as shared traditions and culture between the two countries.
Montenegro ranks second, with 20% of respondents saying they have traveled this year. This trend is mainly explained by the country's tourism offer, as Montenegro remains one of the most frequented destinations in the region, especially during the summer season, thanks to its coastline and tourist infrastructure.
After these two countries, a significant portion of Albanians, around 18%, declare having traveled to North Macedonia. Meanwhile, travel to other countries in the region remains more limited. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia register the lowest percentages, with 4% and 2%, respectively.
However, a significant figure is the fact that 52% of respondents declare that they have not traveled to any of the countries in the region, which shows that, despite the increased interest in traveling, a large part of the population is still not actively involved in regional tourism. On the other hand, Kosovo and North Macedonia have traveled more to Albania, respectively 66% and 31% of citizens say they have chosen Albania as a regional destination. /Scan/
