Prime Minister Edi Rama clashed with the head of the Builders Association, Erjon Harizaj, on Tuesday during a meeting with the business community about the Fiscal Peace package. Rama accused the construction sector of being the most profitable in the country, while at the same time declaring low salaries for employees.
According to the Prime Minister, there can be no peace with builders who, as he stated, declare employees with minimum wages that do not exist in reality. Rama emphasized that in construction there are no employees who work for 500 thousand lekë and that this practice seriously harms the rights of workers.
"What kind of support do you want, when you declare employees with 500 thousand lek? There is no such employee in construction, neither in Tirana nor anywhere. You are the sector with the most profit in Albania. Shake your pockets well, pay your employees 1500 or 2000 euros and finish the constructions that you have left half-finished. There is no peace with you and there will be no peace", said Rama. The Prime Minister added that the situation has also been favored by a previous decision of the Constitutional Court, which according to him does not allow the establishment of a ceiling for minimum wages in the sector, creating room for abuses.
During the meeting, Rama explained that the only condition for benefiting from Fiscal Peace is that enterprises are not in conflict with Albanian law. He emphasized that, procedurally, businesses must present a self-corrected fiscal statement to be included in the scheme.
