The DP Parliamentary Group has today requested the holding of a debate in the Assembly focusing on the findings of the OSCE-ODIHR final report published last week.
The request signed by the Chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group Gazment Bardhi, among other things, states that: "Given the findings and conclusions of the OSCE-ODIHR final report on the parliamentary elections of May 11, 2025, especially those related to the violation of the principle of equality of the competing parties, we consider it our duty as members of the Albanian Parliament to initiate and promote the parliamentary debate on the problems, shortcomings and standards of the electoral processes in our country, as a contribution to the work of the Parliamentary Commission for the Implementation of Electoral Reform, recently approved by inter-party consensus.
According to opposition MPs, the content of the Report emphasizes that the 2025 parliamentary elections were held in a highly polarized environment, where contestants did not enjoy equal opportunities.
The ruling party benefited from extensive use of state resources and institutional capacities, including the announcement of a large number of fines just hours before election day, and senior government officials engaged in a wide range of official activities that often coincided with campaign messages, blurring the line between state and party. There were allegations of pressure on civil servants, intimidation of opposition supporters, and the use of patronage networks, which contravened international standards.
Other issues of concern include reports of vote-buying, attempts to unfairly influence marginalized voters, and allegations of criminal elements influencing some political parties.
