A state funeral ceremony will be held today at the Palace of Congresses in honor of former Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano. One of the most important figures of the Albanian political transition, Nano will be honored with the highest state honors.
The government has declared November 2 a day of national mourning, with flags at all public institutions lowered to half-mast. Friends, associates and citizens will have the opportunity to honor the former leader of the Socialist Party by laying wreaths of flowers next to his coffin.
According to the official agenda, public tributes will take place from 08:30 to 11:00, while at 11:15 state dignitaries and the Diplomatic Corps will arrive. The farewell ceremony will begin at 12:00, in the presence of high-ranking representatives of the state and friendly countries. After the ceremony, the funeral procession will accompany Fatos Nano to his final residence, in a private family ceremony.
