After more than seven hours of hearing, the Constitutional Court has completed its extraordinary review regarding the validity of the dismissal of Mayor Erion Veliaj, a process initiated with the decision of the Municipal Council, the approval of the government and then with the presidential decree.
During the session, the panel heard from all invited parties. In addition to Veliaj, who was present with his lawyers, representatives of the prime minister's office and the presidency were also in the room, who gave their views on the dismissal procedure.
Veliaj had the opportunity to speak, where he harshly criticized the way the process for his dismissal was followed, mentioning the detention he has suffered for more than nine months without any charges. In conclusion, the presiding judge, Holta Zaçaj, stated that the Constitutional Court will issue a notice and decision on Veliaj's dismissal within the legal deadline.
