The Committee on Legal Affairs and Public Administration has rejected the opposition's request for the dismissal of President Bajram Begaj.
Democratic MP Gjin Gjoni said that the DP Parliamentary Group has submitted a request to initiate the procedure for the dismissal of the President for serious and persistent violations.
He listed the violations that the opposition claims were committed by President Begaj. According to the DP, he decreed elections in Tirana in violation of the Constitution, interfered with the mandate of the members of the Constitutional Court, and also decreed in violation of the law on Investigative Commissions:
The 7 violations that the opposition claimed were committed by President Bajram Begaj are:
Interfered with the mandate of the members of the Constitutional Court, affected its independence
Decreed in violation of the law on Investigative Commissions
Decreed the virtual minister 'Diella'
It did not stop the diplomatic corps from being involved in the 2025 campaign
His cabinet interfered in the election administration process
Son fictitiously employed at a private insurance company that benefits from tenders from the presidency/ Begaj himself employed at a private clinic.
But for the socialists, these violations were not convincing enough to dismiss the president. After rejecting all the opposition's claims, Manja said that Begaj is a changed president.
"The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, is a doctor by profession, as we all are, except for one of our professions. He was the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and today he is the honored president of the Republic of Albania. He has given to Albania where very few of us have not been given the opportunity to give," said Manja.
The request was put to a vote and resulted in 5 votes in favor from the opposition and 9 against from the majority.
