According to Andi Mustafaj, the independent candidate is not a neutral solution, but a narrative trap of the government. He believes that the idea of “apoliticalism” is a product of the regime’s propaganda, which for years has fed society with the phrase “don’t turn it political,” disarming citizens and turning them into spectators of their own political self-oppression. For Mustafaj, accepting an “apolitical” candidate means surrendering to the logic of the government, which demands that the opposition have no identity, voice, or political protagonism. In this perspective, the independent candidate does not challenge the regime — on the contrary, it feeds it, legitimizing the idea that politics is not a means of change, but a burden. Therefore, Mustafaj argues that the opposition should fight politics, not avoid them; because if it gives up politics, it hands over the monopoly of power to the regime and destroys hope for change.

The “apolitical” society: the next (last?) link in the Regime’s rule
In this country, when you accept the logic of propaganda, it swallows you up, and then uses you to prove itself.
For more than a decade, the regime has fed the people two magic propaganda pills.
"Don't make it political."
A phrase that disarms the citizen, turns him into a spectator of himself.
"It's Saliu's fault."
A doctrine to shift responsibility from the government to the opposition.
These formulas are two sides of the same coin for a regime that rules with confusion, before subduing with fear.
Today, they have come together in a form created by an insoluble equation for the Democratic Party: the apolitical candidate.
Some think this choice is a wise move, a compromise that unites.
In fact, it is a quiet victory for the regime.
Not because he wins the Mayoralty, it is currently an unimportant race.
The mandate is short,
The Municipal Council is controlled by the Regime,
The administration is gangrenous with patronage.
But because the narrative wins.
"It's not my fault that I'm crushing you, but the other parties that don't inspire you."
"It's not my fault for firing the gun, but the DP's that only has a body of flesh and blood that allows the bullet to penetrate."
This path leads to the monopoly of the exercise of politics by the government, creating a society that trusts more in outsiders than in itself, which slowly begins to hate its political self.
Politics is not a shame, it is oxygen.
A municipality is a political institution.
Every decision made there is political.
In a normal state, the word "apolitical" could mean neutrality.
In a regime like this, it means submission.
Because when the opposition agrees to not be political, the regime rules without competition.
The regime knows this very well, so there was no need to react, so there is no need to campaign.
He is in a win–win situation: in any case, he wins.
If the "apolitical" candidate wins, the idea is conveyed that the opposition is an obstacle.
If he loses, the eternal slogan is repeated: "It's Saliu's fault."
This is not just an electoral story, it is an escalating political and psychological project.
The political identity of the Albanian citizen should gradually disappear, people should be deprived of the sense of inclusion.
To create a society that no longer sees politics as a means of change, but as a source of disgust.
In this apolitical society, parties weaken, militants leave, and citizens become passive.
Only the regime remains with structure, with purpose, with motive.
Only he has politics. Only he does politics.
And whoever holds the policy holds the power.
This is the real dilemma of the day: The opposition is speaking with the language of the regime, with its terminology, with the timidity it has instilled in society.
A courtyard effect has been recreated around the leader of the Democratic Party,
Thrown away from the great door during the Pulpit,
Turning away from the small door when we lowered our guard.
A courtyard with deafening counselors.
Those who thought boycotting the elections was the right thing to do,
That burning mandates was a smart solution,
That closed lists were a good idea.
These intersecting phenomena are more dangerous than any electoral defeat.
Because when politics is silent, propaganda speaks.
When the opposition becomes "moderate", the regime becomes eternal.
We need to talk. Now.
I know, it's hard to talk.
But you have to.
Because silence is equal to acceptance.
We need to talk about the dangers that threaten democracy,
about the mechanisms of manipulation of the opposition,
about how a politically disarmed society is being created,
We must speak not with anger, but with reason.
Not with wishes, but with facts.
Today, more than ever, we must remind ourselves:
Politics is not the enemy. Politics is the weapon.
And whoever gives up their weapons surrenders without a fight.
The "apolitical" society is the next link in the chain of rule.
If we accept it as normal, it will become the final link.
Because after it, there will be no one left to speak, no one to fight, no one to win.
