Facing the disease of the century, cancer. Blerina Kalthi's story for the show "Sepse" on A2 CNN, from the loss of her only brother to cancer, to the diagnosis of malignant breast disease, to her mother's illness.
story
"Facing cancer has not been easy. I was diagnosed with stage three malignant breast cancer in 2021. A disease that did not just stay there but also spread to other parts of my body.
"It was initially diagnosed in my chest. Then it quickly spread to my uterus. I had surgery and again had problems, the cancerous cells spread to my liver, from where they then poisoned my blood from 28 chemotherapy sessions. I was forced to have a transplant in Turkey for 42 thousand euros, all covered by my family and parents."
When asked how she experienced it, she says, "It's like fighting a war for 28 years every day. Your whole world turns upside down. Because we have a history of cancer in our family." She says she lost her only brother to a brain tumor in 2012. It was very difficult.
Even though I had somehow prepared myself that "Even if I have it, I will be strong and I will get through it," but when history repeats itself, the pain woke up once again.
I also have my sick mother. She needs 20 sessions. I made the trip every day for two months straight. Because the equipment broke down every week.
Even doctors have said on occasion "He doesn't work today". After all that spiritual and physical fatigue, bureaucracy also kills you. Here was the biggest shock because history is repeating itself again. In her journey with the disease and the battle with life, the ballerina says that the state does not provide any help, and it is even non-existent.
Speaking about the scandal involving the Oncology Hospital in Tirana, Blerina says that the lack of medicine is unacceptable. "It's a disease that doesn't wait. Three months without medicine is extremely long. That's why, because we don't have the means, we are forced to turn to private clinics."
