Movement without controls on the border between Albania and Kosovo has been restored for vehicles with Albanian and Kosovo license plates. The decision, which came into effect on November 1, will remain in effect until the end of February next year.
During this period, checks will only be carried out on vehicles with foreign license plates, but with an expedited procedure, to avoid long waits at border crossings, especially in Morina and Vermicë.
This relaxed regime was restored after a month-long suspension in October, when registration and verification of vehicles and passengers were carried out. Even then, during weekends and official holidays, citizens of both countries passed through without checks.
The free movement agreement between Albania and Kosovo aims to facilitate movement and avoid traffic at the border. It has yielded visible results, especially in the summer season, when the flow of travelers is higher.
According to the agreement, the periods of movement without controls or with reduced controls are from May 1 to September 30 and from November 1 to February 28. In total, citizens of both countries benefit from 9 months a year of facilitated passage, while in March, April and October full controls are implemented, except for weekends and official holidays.
