As of November 1, the regime of movement without controls for vehicles with Albanian and Kosovar license plates has been restored at all border points between Albania and Kosovo. This relief will remain in force until February 28 of next year.
During this period, border controls will only be carried out for vehicles with foreign license plates, but with expedited procedures to avoid long waits, especially at the busiest points such as Morina and Vermica.
The control-free regime returns after a one-month suspension in October, during which time Albanian and Kosovar authorities carried out the process of registering and checking vehicles and passengers. Even during that period, weekends and official holidays remained exempt from controls.
According to the agreement between the two governments, the periods of free movement without controls are May 1 - September 30 and November 1 - February 28, while regular controls are implemented in March, April and October, with the exception of official holidays.
This circulation model, which was first applied several years ago, aims to facilitate the movement of citizens, promote economic cooperation, and reduce border traffic, especially during the summer tourist season when the flow of travel between the two countries increases significantly.
