After receiving 35 signatures, the Democratic Party (DP) has decided to take the election of Endri Shabani as Ombudsman to the Constitutional Court. The Democratic Party's parliamentary group considers the process to have been conducted in violation of parliamentary procedures.
According to the official announcement, the Democratic Party claims that the election of Endri Shabani was made by direct decision of Prime Minister Edi Rama and not through a regular parliamentary procedure.
The DP also emphasizes that in this process, the signatures of Democratic MPs, which had previously been withdrawn, were misused.
We recall that Endri Shabani was elected Ombudsman on the evening of December 11 with 85 votes in favor, given by the socialist majority.
The Democratic Party, which had initially supported Shabani's candidacy, later declared that it had withdrawn the signatures for the six candidates, claiming that the majority aimed to take control of the Ombudsman institution.
