The head of the parliamentary group of the Socialist Party, Taulant Balla, commented on the election of the People's Advocate, Endri Shabani, describing him as the best name ever chosen for this position. He emphasized that Shabani was a candidacy proposed by the opposition, which also found consensus among the majority, who voted for him with a majority of votes.
"This is the best case of ever resolving the Ombudsman. 6 candidacies came from the opposition, all 6 were put to the vote, and one of them was decided. I have said that the Ombudsman will not be political. We voted for the candidate that the opposition brought," said Balla.
Commenting on the statements of the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, who warned that the opposition would no longer cooperate with the Socialist Party after the election of the Ombudsman without agreement, Balla stressed that the majority cannot be blackmailed. He added that the opposition's emotions will subside "after they have eaten baklava and turkey."
Balla also warned of changes in parliamentary committees if the opposition does not restore cooperation:
"If they do not do this, if they break the agreement not to participate in the commission, we will break the agreement on the presence of the majority in the commissions. We will respect the will of the Albanians. The minority cannot take hostage the need for reform."
