"I cannot be the prime minister of a country that has more detainees than people convicted by court decision."
This was Edi Rama's most repeated sentence at today's press conference, through which he gave the message that justice reform has problems that need corrections.
In this way, the Prime Minister left the path open for changes and interventions, although he did not talk about concrete measures, while he did not spare a dose of criticism. Concerned about the brutality and rudeness of the violation of human rights, Rama listed several government figures that, according to him, prove the heavy hand of the Special Prosecution Office in detention measures.
On this occasion, he did not leave out the security measures against his close associates, saying that, although he does not comment on the measure against Balluk, this does not mean that SPAK has not intervened in the affairs of the executive in this case.
At the end-of-year conference, justice was the central axis, occupying about 80% of the time and importance addressed. This was also reflected in Edi Rama's calm, which seemed broken whenever SPAK and the government were mentioned together.
Regarding the idea that SPAK can be considered the true opposition to the Rama government, the Prime Minister said that "SPAK is not the government's opposition, it is a new institution, created thanks to the will of this governing force, supported by us, guaranteed by this governing force, in the sense that others have sworn to dissolve it, but they could not dissolve it because we have the votes. It is an institution that does its job. It is not the government's opposition, but the deep depression in which the political opposition is in makes the work of SPAK the only point of reference for the depressive opposition to hit the government", Rama said.
