Today's plenary session of Parliament was marked by tensions, interruptions, and clashes between opposition MPs and security forces.
Tensions began at the beginning of the session, when Democratic Party deputies occupied ministers' seats before the official opening, forcing the intervention of the Republic Guard to restore order in the hall. But the opposition did not retreat, returning the flamethrowers and smoke bombs to the Assembly, while articulating accusations against the majority regarding recent political developments, following SPAK's request for authorization to arrest Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
The situation escalated at the moment of Endrit Shabani's swearing in as People's Advocate. DP deputies reacted harshly, throwing objects at him. But even this did not stop Shabani from taking the oath as People's Advocate. Before leaving the hall, he added "gasoline to the fire" by raising two fingers and blowing kisses at the opposition deputies.
The opposition MPs continued to sit in the ministers' chairs, while the intervention of the guard did not restore calm. At one point, MP Flamur Noka threw water at the Guard Commander, who tried to approach, but was stopped by other officers.
In this chaos, Niko Peleshi found time to expel two DP deputies, Klevis Balliu and Flamur Noka, from the session. On the other hand, the leader of the socialist parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, reacted with ironic tones towards the opposition, stating that he hopes that this behavior will serve as motivation for its supporters to join the announced protest.
After the exceptions, the majority approved the agenda without discussion and amidst the chaos, the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, closed the session.
Upon exiting, the leaders of the DP and SP addressed the media microphones to reiterate their positions. From the Democrats, Berisha was the one who spoke and repeated the accusations against the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Meanwhile, from the Socialists, it was the group leader Taulant Balla, who stated that whenever the Democrats see that they have no "breath" in the protests they call, they try to set the parliament on fire.
But it seems that the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group will not leave it at that, as this afternoon it has asked the Assembly to take disciplinary measures against 29 opposition MPs for the incidents that occurred.
In the request addressed to Pelesh, the Socialist Party requested the exclusion from the proceedings of the Assembly for 60 days for MPs Belind Këlliçi, Albana Vokshi, Fidel Kreka, Ledina Alolli and Denisa Vata, Klevis Balliu, and Flamur Noka.
The SP also requests the exclusion for 30 days from the proceedings of the Assembly for other MPs Sali Berisha, Gazment Bardhi, Elda Hoti, Besart Xhaferri, Xhelal Mziu, Bledjon Nallbati, Luçiano Boçi and Saimir Korreshi.
A 10-day exemption from the work of the Assembly has been requested for the other MPs, Edi Paloka, Ina Zhupa, Klodiana Çapja, Oerd Bylykbashi, Enno Bozdo, Tomorr Alizoti, Ivi Kaso, Gent Strazimiri, Luan Baçi, Bledi Himçi, Greta Bardeli, Manjola Luku, Flamur Hoxha and Kliti Hoti.
