More than six months after losing the elections, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has called for an in-depth analysis of the DP results, gathering branch leaders and demanding that new figures be included in the process. He did not mention elections within the party, but insisted on the active participation of everyone.
"The analysis is mandatory. You will do it with the leadership, with the sections and group sections. You will come up with suggestions, with proposals with what you think. But its success is how much we will be able to bring new values. Therefore, each of you should think about who I know, where they are, talk and bring them closer, no matter how difficult it may seem at first glance," said Berisha.
He also spoke about peaceful protests, calling on citizens to become aware, but without giving a specific date.
"Apart from peaceful protest, no other means can save Albania from this power that surpasses any kind of regime. Every Albanian must awaken his conscience. Let us rise up and there is only one way, our resistance, our protest, no other way. It is our major obligation to examine this dramatic situation, analyze it and decide to respond to it."
At the press conference, Berisha again attacked the EU ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, after the clash over the gender equality law.
"This gentleman (Gonzato) tells the DP deputies and not only, 'that narco-state that Berisha talks about, no one believes it either here or in Luxembourg'. Of course, he brings information that is absolutely untrue, that the narco-state is the most tragic and dramatic reality of Albanians. Then I ask him why 1 million and 99 thousand Albanians fled during the years of the narco-state. Tell us what these towers are that only 20% have from banks and others."
Berisha continued with his familiar rhetoric, blaming the "regime" for the loss of the by-elections, where the SP won all municipalities, while the DP did not present its own candidates and only supported a few independents symbolically.
"We are in a situation where the regime has been installed. The massive violation of the free vote of Albanians was revealed with all its ugliness, it revealed with all its power the violation of international law, or the use of the potential of the state, to rob the vote of Albanians. It revealed the machetes of criminal gangs, of the government's allies, to prevent Albanians from voting freely. It proved that in a programmed, unstoppable manner, at any cost and cost, it will stay in power and that the vote of Albanians is something worthless to it."
