The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who has been in detention since February 10 of this year, has ordered the start of preparations for decorating the capital on the occasion of the end-of-year holidays.
An official announcement from the Municipality of Tirana states that Veliaj has requested that the Decoration and Events Company immediately begin work on placing festive lighting and decorations in squares, streets and public spaces.
"Tirana will light up again for the end-of-year holidays. Although it is in difficult conditions, the mayor has ordered the start of preparations, demanding respect for the highest safety standards and technical and aesthetic criteria," the announcement says.
The municipality also announces that, based on decision no. 420, dated 08.06.2006 of the Council of Ministers "On the approval of the state ceremonial of the Republic of Albania", measures will also be taken to decorate the buildings of the ministries according to institutional requirements.
This is one of the first public administrative acts that the mayor undertakes from the detention cell, signaling the continuation of the exercise of certain powers for the management of city affairs.
