Democratic Party MP Gjin Gjoni stated in a live broadcast for the show "Off the Record" with Andrea Dangli on A2CNN that the opposition must take stronger political steps, including a boycott of Parliament or a hunger strike, to oppose electoral distortions and the lack of respect for parliamentary rules.
“The elements that have been identified in the OSCE/ODIHR report must be sanctioned immediately,” said Gjoni, emphasizing that the majority rejects any consensus on the changes requested by the opposition. According to him, the abolition of pre-election coalitions has created a “major defect” in the representation of the opposition and has led to the loss of mandates for the DP.
"The Democratic Party must be radicalized. Parliament cannot continue to be a facade. Citizens are not satisfied and expect concrete actions from us," he declared.
Speaking about possible forms of radicalization, John said that they must be "well-calculated and with guaranteed success."
"When I talk about radicalization, I think about isolation in Parliament. Another option is a hunger strike, but these steps must be taken carefully. MPs must sacrifice to give new energy to citizens," he said.
The MP also criticized the way the majority has handled controversial issues in the Assembly, citing the case of the draft law on gender equality that, according to him, “was postponed until 3 a.m. and put to a vote without debate.”
"This parliament is not normal. Neither the Constitution nor the rules of procedure are respected," Gjoni concluded.
