The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated today that the people throwing Molotov cocktails during the protests are "somewhat desperate," responding to the question of whether the protest he called for would be violent.
According to Berisha, he and the head of the European Union delegation, David McAllister, are on the same page, as the latter has emphasized that “there is no place for violent protests.” The democratic leader’s statement came at a time when discussions are increasing about the form and intensity of the opposition action.
However, the description of the teenagers throwing Molotov cocktails during the protests as “desperate” has raised questions, especially when compared to previous statements. Just two days earlier, Berisha had described them as “the great heroes of democracy.”
The change in tone following McAllister's visit and statement has brought different reactions and interpretations in public opinion, raising doubts about the opposition's clear stance towards acts of violence in protests.
