The intense rains that have hit the country today continue to keep river flows in the Fier region at high levels. While in Memaliaj there are reports of a drop in the level of the Vjosa, the situation at the Mifoli Bridge appears much more serious.
The latest measurements show that the river has reached a level of 8.2 meters, marking a significant increase and increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas, agricultural lands and some homes near the riverbed. Authorities warn that if the flows remain at this intensity, the situation could worsen further.
Meanwhile, another hot spot has been identified in the village of Sheqeras, in the municipality of Maliq, where the embankment of the secondary river coming from Ormani and Pojani appears damaged and likely to crack. This has put local and regional authorities on alert.
The working group is assessing the situation and taking measures to strengthen the embankment, in order to avoid a possible flood. Authorities call on residents to remain calm, but on alert, and to follow the instructions of emergency teams. Efforts are ongoing to stabilize the situation and prevent major damage to homes and surrounding agricultural lands.
