Journalist Klodiana Lala, invited to the show “The Unexposed” on MCN TV, has commented on the debate on pre-trial detention in Albania, criticizing the position of Prime Minister Edi Rama. According to her, Rama's reaction came only after important political figures were affected. “Mr. Rama raised the problem of pre-trial detention precisely at the moment when his antechamber was affected, that is, when high-ranking exponents of the Socialist Party were affected, and not during the 14 years of government,” Lala said.
She emphasized that this issue has previously been raised by journalists and lawyers without receiving the attention it deserves. “Nobody was concerned about pre-trial detention when it arose as a problem for ordinary citizens,” she stated.
At the same time, Lala also pointed out a dual stance within the Supreme Court of Albania, mentioning that while the aim is to unify practices for pre-trial detention, in specific cases the measure of "prison arrest" continues to be left in force.
"The mask has fallen off," Lala concluded, adding that institutional reaction often comes only when direct political interests are affected.
