Former President Ilir Meta has again addressed the Special Court with a request to replace the security measure.
He is seeking a reduction in the measure, claiming that there is no longer any reason to keep him in detention as long as the investigations have been completed and the case has been heard on the merits. Under these conditions, there is no possibility that he could destroy evidence or intimidate witnesses, as SPAK claims.
According to the law, the request will be reviewed within 5 days by the trial panel that will review the criminal charges against the former head of state.
A day ago, the Criminal Court of Kosovo decided to send to trial the criminal case against former President Ilir Meta and his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi and three other defendants.
The leader of the Freedom Party is accused of corruption, money laundering and concealment of assets in connection with the CEZ DIA case as well as contracts signed by the former Socialist Party for integration with lobbying companies in the United States of America.
