The murder of 36-year-old Mariola Nakoleci in Volos in August shocked the entire Greek community. Her 40-year-old husband Pandeli Nakoleci killed her at the entrance to the building, while the couple’s three minor children were nearby when police arrived at the scene. Today, the couple’s eldest daughter, Anastasia, spoke out about the crime, declaring that “they are both guilty” because “they left us on the street, they didn’t think about us at all”, noting that “it is very difficult to live without a mother and father”.
"They are both to blame for me. They left us on the street, they didn't think about us at all. My mother had a boyfriend, my father was jealous and that's why the fight happened. "This man was talking to my mother, I think they had been together for a while, I don't know, I can't lie, they had been together for a while... He got in our way and destroyed our whole family," the 18-year-old told MEGA.
She claimed that "my father loved my mother very much. To do this, he was jealous, he loved her. They would go shopping for clothes together, on vacations and with us. And my mother loved my father very much, let alone make this mistake," she said.
Anastasia says she had spoken to her parents: "I had told them 'I don't want you to fight, I want you to be together forever, to see your children'. I didn't want this to happen. I never thought about it". In fact, according to the 18-year-old, before the murder they had gone on holiday: "we had gone on holiday, we had a great time and after two days the unexpected happened. Before we went on holiday they had a fight, it started with a text message, dad saw the messages on his mobile phone".
"They were very hurt for my mother, they can curse my father a lot too. But it's not just my father's fault, it's my mother's fault too. They are both guilty. They both made mistakes. And my mother made mistakes and my father was wrong to kill a woman he loved so much and had four children with," she repeated.
The day of the murder: "My brother called me and said, 'Come quickly, this happened, this happened.' I went and saw everything. He said, 'Dad killed mom.' I still have those voices on my cell phone."
According to Anastasia, when her father was hiding in a piece of land and the authorities were searching for him, he called her and said, “I didn’t want to, I didn’t want to do this.” “Mom had told him a lot and dad was thinking different things and he did it,” the 18-year-old said.
Anastasia said that this was the only time she had spoken to her father on the phone, and when asked if she would visit him in prison, she replied: "I don't know if I want to see him. I really want to, but I would like my mother to be there too."
"Dad never hit us, neither did my mother. I have never seen dad hit my mother in my life. He was not violent. He was very jealous, it makes sense because my mother talked to someone she shouldn't because she was happy," she said, among other things.
— They are both guilty because Mom made some mistakes too, — she repeated and added: — she should have talked to Dad, they should have separated, let us both see each other. Dad shouldn't have killed Mom. What can I say? I don't know.
"I miss my mom"
After the murder, Anastasia went with her siblings to live with her mother's sister, but "she told me different things and I didn't like them and I said, 'I want to leave.'" Now the girl wants to make a new start in her father's sister's house.
"I miss my mom. I think about it. I cry every day, but I want to get over it. I see the pictures and I can't believe it. I'm really sad, but I'm trying to get better. It's very difficult to live without a mother and father," she confessed to MEGA.
