The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed that the suspected perpetrator of the sniper attack on political activist Charlie Kirk is Tyler Robinson, from the state of Utah. The news was announced during a press conference held on Thursday, shortly after Robinson was questioned by investigative authorities.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox also confirmed the arrest and expressed gratitude for the cooperation of the suspect's family, highlighting their role in helping to capture the perpetrator. "We thank the members of the Robinson family for doing the right thing," Cox said, revealing that Robinson's father had helped in his arrest.
According to authorities, Utah Valley University security footage shows Robinson arriving on campus Wednesday morning in a Dodge Challenger, about four hours before the fatal attack on Kirk.
Governor Cox also provided details about the arrest process, stating: “On the evening of September 11, a family member of Tyler Robinson contacted a close friend, who then notified the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary information indicates that Robinson had confessed or implied that he was the perpetrator of the crime.”
The motives for the attack on Charlie Kirk remain unclear. Kirk was a prominent conservative figure and a strong supporter of former US President Donald Trump. The latter strongly condemned the attack, telling US media: "I hope the perpetrator gets the death penalty."
