The number of municipalities that will be subject to early local elections has increased to six. After Berat, Tepelena and Mati, where the current mayors were elected deputies on May 11 and are expected to be sworn in at tomorrow's parliamentary session. Three more municipalities have been added to the list, Tirana, Vlora and Cerrik.
In Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced Ogerta Manastirliu as a candidate, following the arrest of Erion Veliaj on February 10. In Vlora, the snap elections come after the sudden resignation of Ermal Dredha, while in Cërrik, the seat remained vacant after the appointment of Andis Salla as Minister of Agriculture.
It is now expected that the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, will decree the official date for holding early elections in these six municipalities.
Meanwhile, the former mayors of Berat, Tepelena and Mati, Ervin Demo, Tërmet Peçi and Agron Malaj will begin their new mandate as deputies in the Albanian Parliament.
