An Albanian citizen was arrested on Sunday in Boyacá, Colombia, during a check by immigration authorities. According to official reports, he is internationally wanted by Italian authorities for involvement in criminal organizations and drug trafficking.
The arrested man has been identified as Genti Krasniqi, known as one of the Albanian heroin bosses and one of the most wanted by the Italian police.
The investigation into him began in 2016, when Milan prosecutors discovered that a luxury apartment in the city was being used to hide heroin shipments coming from Tirana. The apartment was controlled by a couple – an Italian woman and an Albanian man – who were suspected of being involved in the trafficking network.
Krasniqi had traveled from Bogota to the city of Tunja and was stopped by authorities while trying to complete a procedure at the Colombian Immigration Office. It is suspected that he had chosen to move towards Boyacá to avoid the stricter controls in the capital and at the usual crossing points, thinking that Tunja would be a safer place to stay without being detected.
