The Civil Guard in Almería has carried out a successful operation against an Albanian criminal group based in Roquetas de Mar, dismantling a drug trafficking network. As a result, three people were arrested – all with previous criminal records in the United Kingdom and Kosovo, where they had also been convicted of similar offences.
The operation, divided into two phases, led to the discovery and destruction of two marijuana plantations located in remote areas with difficult terrain, specifically in Las Tres Villas and Felix, within the Sierra de los Filabres natural area. The plantations were well hidden and equipped with sophisticated security systems, such as surveillance cameras and electric fences around the cultivated lands.
Due to the difficult geographical conditions, Civil Guard officers requested assistance from the Air Service (SAER), which helped extract the plants through an anchor system and 1,000-liter bags. In total, around 300 kilograms of cannabis were seized, with an estimated value of over 500,000 euros.
During the operation, three residences were searched and the individuals involved were arrested. One of the buildings contained an underground structure that was being transformed into an indoor plantation, complete with sophisticated equipment such as high-intensity LED lighting, plant substrate, and other materials needed for cultivation.
This action is part of the Civil Guard's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, cultivation and production, as well as electricity fraud in the province of Almería. Various units of the Civil Guard participated in the operation, including the Territorial Unit, the Civil Security Unit, the Canine Service and the Command Center, with support from the Air Service (SAER).
