The Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction sentenced Italian businessman Francesco Becheti to 12 years in prison. The decision was made by a panel of judges Genti Shala, Brikena Ukperaj and Dritan Hasani, which reduced the businessman's sentence by 5 years from the 17 years he had been sentenced to by the first instance.
He was found guilty of theft by abuse of office, creation of fraudulent schemes for the purpose of illegal gain, and money laundering.
The second instance of the judiciary upheld the decision for the mother of businessman Becheti, Liliana Condomitti, and citizen Eriona Troplini, sentencing them to 8 years in prison each.
Meanwhile, the verdict for Bechetti's partner, Mauro de Renzi, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison out of 16 that he had been sentenced to by the Tirana court, was changed. The court dismissed the trial for the companies "Kalivaç Green Energy" and "Energy" shpk. Businessman Bechetti, owner of the Agon Channel television, has been in strong conflict with the Albanian government for years.
