The construction of a factory in the village of Kolsh in Kukës has sparked a backlash from residents, who have taken to the streets demanding more transparency about the project. They say they have not been informed about the factory's function and raise serious concerns about the impact it could have on their health and the surrounding environment.
According to residents, it is not yet clear whether the facility will be used for processing iron-nickel or for treating hospital waste. The location of the factory near residential areas is another point of concern, which they say poses a direct risk to the local community.
Residents also claim that pressure is being exerted by the Kukes Municipality to sign documents expressing their approval for the construction, despite the lack of official information.
If the authorities do not provide full transparency and take their concerns into account, residents warn of escalating protests and pursuing legal avenues to stop the works.
