The breach in the Seman River embankment has caused significant damage to residents of the village of Haskutras, in the Libofshë administrative unit of Fier. The floods were caused after the opening of the discharge gates of the Banja hydroelectric power plant, which has significantly increased the flows of the Devoll and Seman rivers, flooding areas of Kuçova and Fier.
Residents of the area report that police forces have been visiting their homes since the early hours of the morning, warning them to leave and take measures to protect their property, due to the risk of rising water levels. The situation has been further aggravated by heavy rainfall and the increased flow of the Seman River.
"The police were there this morning and warned us to leave and move the furniture as high as possible so that the water doesn't get in. The chickens, if they get out of the coop, drown. There are about 50-60 of them. About 27 acres of my land have been flooded," says a resident of the area.
Meanwhile, another resident affected by the floods says that the damage is irreparable: "Now nothing can be fixed. 15 of my beehives have been flooded and about 50 birds have drowned."
