The Durrës Prosecutor's Office, which is investigating the causes of the floods in Durrës and its surroundings, which caused the first victim, an employee of the Municipal Enterprise Plazh, as well as millions of euros in material damage, seized on Monday the documentation related to the tendering procedures and construction of the new hydroelectric dam in Porto Romano worth 19 million euros.
The news is confirmed by sources at the Durrës prosecutor's office, which is investigating the charges of; "Abuse of office", "Destruction of property by flooding" and "Destruction of property by negligence".
From the initial investigations, there are suspicions that the new hydropower plant, an infrastructure project built in recent years, has not functioned and as a result, the floods have been caused.
"There are suspicions that the persons in charge of functions, who are tasked with managing the situation, have committed actions or omissions that constitute a failure to properly fulfill their duties, severely damaging the interests of citizens and legal entities and have also brought serious, evident and measurable consequences on property as well as on the life of a person who has lost his life", the Prosecution emphasizes. In Durrës, during the week of the flood, 54-year-old Astrit Hysenaj also lost his life, who had gone out to the Plepa area to monitor the situation and was swept away by the flow of water. At least 1,500 houses and thousands of hectares of agricultural land were under the power of the water.
