The agreement on constitutional changes between Edi Rama and Sali Berisha seems to be going beyond political rhetoric, turning into a reality that could happen soon. This has been hinted at by the reaction of the chairman of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, a day after the leader of the DP, Sali Berisha, declared that he is ready to sit down at the table to discuss Rama's proposal to reduce the number of deputies and create a Senate in the Assembly.
Balla, during the 20th meeting of the Albania-EU Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee, stated that Berisha's proposal could be addressed in the Special Committee on Electoral Reform.
"Since the chairman of the parliamentary group of the DP and PL is here, tomorrow we will have the names ready so that work can continue and we can meet the conditions for the electoral reform. The chairman of the DP has commented on the reform of the Assembly, regarding the number, and there was even a proposal. Let these also be discussed in the Special Commission on Electoral Reform," said Balla.
It now appears that the SP and the DP have advanced in discussions on the next cooperation on constitutional amendments and are in the phase of publicly presenting these ideas. This is reinforced by the fact that the initiatives are being articulated directly by the main leaders of the two largest political forces in the country, and not by their representatives or analysts in the media.
