The Socialist Party has lost its majority in today's parliamentary session, after failing to secure 71 votes for the approval of draft decisions.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi, attempted to cancel the vote with the argument that a procedural error had been made, while the opposition insisted that the interruption came because the SP did not have the necessary votes.
From reading the names of the Socialist MPs present in the hall, it turned out that there were only 67 MPs, while 18 others were absent, among them Prime Minister Edi Rama and several ministers.
After the debates, the chairman of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, requested a few minutes of rest.
In the debate, Balla stated that the majority had been informed that the opposition had withdrawn from all initiatives, but according to him, "Blush informs us that he has not withdrawn from the initiatives," seeking clarification from the Speaker of the Assembly.
Peleshi stated that it was a “mistake” and explained that the draft decisions are voted on at the end, after the draft laws are discussed. According to him, the withdrawn draft laws are not three, but two, while the draft law “for an addition to the amended law on value added tax” has not been withdrawn. He added that the draft decisions will be voted on after the discussion of the draft laws is completed and that “this error will be corrected.”
