After the protest the day before on the boulevard, where the Democrats demanded the resignation of the Rama government, the opposition has returned to the Special Commission on Administrative-Territorial Reform.
The socialist co-chair of this commission, Arbjan Mazniku, once again reiterated to the DP representatives that they should not use the trust given by the majority to block its work.
On the other hand, democrat Luciano Boçi stated that the relationship between the majority and the opposition is not good in the Assembly, and according to him, this is due to the behavior of the SP with the DP.
The meeting's agenda includes the approval of the work calendar, which foresees that the final draft for the new territorial division will be submitted to the Assembly by June 2026. According to this plan, public consultations will be held in 12 regions in the coming months, meetings with international actors and interest groups, as well as a survey to measure public opinion. Two to three variants of the new division are expected to be presented in April, while the relevant legal package will be prepared in May.
However, it remains unclear whether a political consensus will be reached. The Socialists have spoken out in favor of reducing the number of municipalities, while the Democrats are calling for their increase. Previous clashes over the composition of the commission indicate that the path to an agreement will be difficult, in a still tense political climate.
