Interior Minister Albana Koçiu described today's protest as a violent gathering, which according to her was directly aimed at attacking the State Police.
In a public statement, Koçiu addressed police officers, emphasizing that they have the right to react when attacked, while announcing that he has asked the Director General of Police to identify and hold accountable all those who took part in the violence.
"Protest is a constitutional right, but it must be carried out peacefully. What we saw today was barbaric. The purpose of the protest was to attack the State Police," the minister said.
According to Koçiu, several officers were injured during the clashes: four police officers suffered injuries from burning plastic materials, while 16 other officers are currently receiving medical assistance.
At the end of the statement, the minister wished a speedy recovery to the DP MP, Bledion Nallbati, who was injured during the tensions and was taken to the QSUT for treatment.
