Durrës Police have provided details regarding the execution of the decision to arrest the Mayor of Rrogozhina, Edison Memolla, who has been found guilty of active corruption in the elections. Memolla was sentenced to 1 year in prison by the Special Court of Appeal against Corruption and Organized Crime, a decision that upheld the sentence previously given by the first instance.
According to the authorities, Memolla surrendered to the Kavaja Police after the verdict was announced, while the State Police structures continued the procedures for the execution of the sentence. He was found guilty of the criminal offense of "active corruption in elections", committed in collaboration with other persons, who were also sentenced to 1 year in prison.
In the official reaction, the Police announced that specialists from the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section at the Durrës DVP executed the decision of February 9, 2026 of the Appeals Court of the Albanian Court of Criminal Appeals, for several citizens residing in Rrogozhina, convicted of electoral corruption in collaboration.
The decision against Memolla is final and is expected to have consequences for the leadership of the municipality, as Rrogozhina remains without a mayor and may head towards early elections for the leadership of the local government.
